Tinubu Nominates Joseph Tegbe as New Power Minister

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Joseph Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, following the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who has stepped down to pursue the 2027 Oyo State governorship ticket.

The Presidency confirmed the nomination in a statement, describing Tegbe as “a seasoned energy expert with extensive experience in power sector reforms and infrastructure development.” His nomination is subject to Senate confirmation.

Adelabu, a former Central Bank deputy governor, served as Power Minister during a critical period of sector restructuring. His departure aligns with growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with multiple sources indicating his intention to contest for the Oyo governorship under the All Progressives Congress.

In a related development, President Tinubu has also appointed a new special adviser on power sector coordination to strengthen policy implementation and stakeholder engagement within the ministry.

Energy stakeholders have welcomed Tegbe’s nomination, noting his technical background and familiarity with Nigeria’s electricity challenges. “The power sector needs continuity and decisive leadership,” said one industry analyst. “If confirmed, Tegbe will face immediate tasks: improving grid stability, addressing tariff frameworks, and accelerating private investment.”
