Gunmen Kill Several in Fresh Attacks on Plateau and Kogi, Sparking Fresh Outrage Over Insecurity

Nigerians are once again reeling from heartbreaking violence as fresh attacks in Plateau and Kogi states have left many dead and renewed fears about the government’s ability to protect citizens.

In Plateau State, gunmen struck Nding Susut community in the Fan District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area on Tuesday night, killing at least five people — including an entire family of four women and a nine-year-old boy.

Residents were sitting outside their homes when the assailants opened fire without warning. According to Punch Newspaper, three others were injured in the assault.

The incident comes just days after similar violence in the same area, deepening the trauma for communities already exhausted by recurring attacks.

Many residents expressed anger and despair, questioning why such killings continue despite repeated promises of improved security.

Meanwhile, in Kogi State, suspected gunmen carried out another attack, killing at least one person and injuring two others in separate communities. The incident has added to the growing list of violent episodes in the North-Central region.

Civil society groups and local leaders have condemned the attacks, calling on federal and state governments to do more to tackle the persistent insecurity.
