Bandits Abduct Newly Installed Monarch, Wife, and Aide in Kwara Community

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have abducted a newly installed traditional ruler, his wife, and another individual in a rural community in Kwara State.

The incident occurred late Tuesday night in an undisclosed community within Kaiama Local Government Area, according to local sources and security operatives.

The monarch, who had just been enthroned weeks ago, was reportedly attacked at his palace alongside his wife and a close aide.

“We received distress calls around midnight. The suspects, heavily armed, stormed the palace, overpowered security, and fled with the monarch, his wife, and one other person,” a community leader confirmed on condition of anonymity.

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the abduction and launched a search-and-rescue operation. “We are actively pursuing the suspects and coordinating with other security agencies to secure the safe release of the victims,” stated the Command’s public relations officer.

The attack has heightened fears over rising insecurity in Kwara’s border communities, which have experienced sporadic raids by armed groups in recent years.

Residents have called for increased police presence and better intelligence sharing to prevent further kidnappings.

Traditional institutions in Nigeria often serve as pillars of local governance and conflict resolution, making attacks on monarchs particularly destabilizing for community cohesion.
