Bauchi Police Launch Investigation into Alleged Fatal Shooting of Constable by Soldier

The Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed it has launched a full-scale investigation into the alleged fatal shooting of a police officer by a soldier during a confrontation in Bauchi metropolis.

According to a statement issued Saturday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the incident occurred on October 10, 2025, at approximately 10:35 p.m., during a routine patrol by a team led by Inspector Hussaini Samaila in the Bayan Gari area.

The patrol team reportedly encountered an altercation near Padimo Hotel, where Constable Ukasha Muhammed (Force Number 533164) was allegedly assaulted by two individuals. Moments later, three men—identified as soldiers and partially clad in military uniform- approached the scene armed with rifles.

CSP Wakil stated that Privates Yakubu Yahuza (23NA/85/10185) and Godspower Gabriel (23NA/84/5654) opened fire on Constable Muhammed, striking him in the left chest before fleeing. The remaining officers responded swiftly, apprehending one suspect at the scene, later identified as Private Usman Mubarak (23NA/84/5346), attached to the Special Task Force (STF) Operation Safe Heaven in Jos, Plateau State, while the other two escaped.

Constable Muhammed was immediately evacuated to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has since been deposited in the hospital mortuary.

Wakil confirmed that Privates Yahuza and Gabriel have since been taken into police custody, and a dedicated homicide investigation team has been deployed to gather forensic and testimonial evidence to ensure a thorough and impartial inquiry.

Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has called for calm among officers and the public alike, emphasizing that the investigation will be conducted with discretion, professionalism, and strict adherence to due process.

“The Nigeria Police Force is committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring accountability—regardless of the rank or affiliation of those involved,” the statement read. “Justice will be pursued without fear or favor.”
